Today is the 9th anniversary of the release of "Metal Gear 5: Phantom Pain", Kojima posted a commemorative post
Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain will be officially developed after the release of Death Stranding 2. This action spy game will continue to explore the boundaries of technology, not only as an interactive work, but also as a movie, blurring the lines between games and movies.
"Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain" was developed by Kojima Studios, with Hideo Kojima participating in the main design. It is a hidden open-world action adventure game released in September 2015. The game is built using the "Fox Engine" developed by Kojima Studios. As the 11th game in the "Metal Gear" series, it is also the last direct work directed by Kojima since Konami left. Nonetheless, Konami said she will continue to advance the "Metal Gear" series.
Set in 1984, nine years after "Metal Gear 5: Ground Zero", "Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain" takes players to Afghanistan and the Angolan-Zaire border on an adventure to avenge the mysterious Skull Face, who destroyed the Army Without Borders MSF. The game takes an open-world format, allowing players to explore freely in the Afghan desert during the Afghan war and the jungles of central Africa during the Angolan civil war, while collecting resources to build and operate their own home base. The game also includes an online mode of "Forward Base", which allows players to infiltrate other players' bases to steal resources and weapons.
After Kojima's tweet, many Japanese players responded that they are still playing Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain.
